Hoot

hootWhen I was 10, this movie was exactly what I was looking for – a misfit kid teams-up with a cool tough-girl & mysterious wild child to save some owls from a greedy unscrupulous developer? Yeah – bring it on! Of course, I’m 45 now… But in a moment of weakness, I reverted back that that old me, and selected this from the airplane movie list while flying over the Atlantic. Well… It’s about as you might expect – it’s pretty cheesy, totally predictable and a lot of borderline cringe. 10-year-old me would have loved this.

Bottle Rocket

This movie was indeed a lot like a bottle rocket… wandering aimlessly, but amusingly for a while, then finishing with a bang. To which, the viewer smirks, shrugs, and says “hmm”… or perhaps “huh”. It follows the exploits of a couple 20-something slackers, and their really poorly-thought-out plan for success through petty criminal mischief.

Idiocracy

Probably the most realistic portrayal of the future that I’ve seen put to film… I nearly added the “True Story” tag to this post.  It’s already happening… Is “Ow, my balls!” really much different than a lot of pop culture being produced today? Anyway, aside from the spooky window into our future, this was just a plain funny and wholly original movie.

The Roya Tenenbaums

Fun movie about a family of characters. Every character in this movie has some serious “issues”… but they’re all so wacky one just has to laugh. Something about this movie reminds me of how sometimes when you fly from Cleveland to Chicago, you have to go through Atlanta – Is that funny or sad?
