Bliss and Bugs
The path headed into the main canyon for a time, and we were treated to a series of side-streams cascading through the lush greenery into the main channel. The low light of the sun gave everything a magical glow.

The sun also brought out the bugs. Fortunately, there are no mosquitoes in Iceland. Unfortunately, there are midges. These small gnat-like flies swarm over anything standing; suicidally entering ears, noses, mouths, and eyes. They rarely bite, but that matters little. When the midges are thick, they are absolutely intolerable. There is nothing you can do to dissuade them; the only solution is to don a bug head-net or hope for a stiff breeze and cool weather.
