Jökulsá Á Fjöllum
We continued over the rolling tundra, eventually arriving at a dramatic canyon sliced through the volcanic land by the second largest river in Iceland, Jökulsá Á Fjöllum. The canyon was a rich and immense series of bends and buttresses stretching as far as the eye could see. We were lucky to have a marked trail through this section. We even passed a few day-hikers, though once we got a fair distance from the nearest roads, we were once again alone.
