Asbyrgi
We quickly arrived at Asbyrgi, the location of a national park, and according to legend a place where Odin's 8-legged horse, Sleipner, once touched the ground. The result was a giant horseshoe-shaped canyon with no stream of water in its basin. Our route took us up the side of the cliff, and along the top for a couple miles. The cliffs got steeper, and filled with more nesting and soaring seabirds - still within flying distance of the ocean. At the base of the cliffs grew a rare Icelandic forest - one of the older forests in the country.
