Of Tussocks and Lakes
We turned off the main road, and onto something identified as a "track" on our map - two parallel dotted lines. The "track" seemed to be more of a general guideline of where to go. A truck had rolled down the way some time ago, and the faint (and often disappearing) ruts provided some relief from walking over the small tussocks that filled the landscape. Our goal was a lake, Beltisvatn, that was at the end of the track. We found a lot of sheep, a small shepherd's hut, countless birds, and more side-tracks, but no lake. How could a lake disappear into a flat landscape devoid of trees? We continued on, eventually stopping to camp at 10pm, thirsty and out of water.
