Svešjį
Before I started the trip, there was one river I knew would be the most difficult of all the crossings - the Svešjį. It was like a tipping point of the trip in my mind - if we could get past it, the rest of the trip would only get easier. I had mapped out a couple of crossing points, and built the river up in my mind to the point where I couldn't think of anything else. I couldn't "think past" it, until we got past it.

As it turned out, the cool weather had kept this glacially-fed river somewhat tame. The crossing was just over the knees at the deepest point, and the current was moderate. But, we could tell from the look of the riverbank that it could turn into a monster if the conditions were right. We counted our blessings and kept going, up into the hills to the south.
